Drake University- Topic Intensive

Events Offered:

  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate

  • Public Forum Debate

  • Congressional Debate

  • Speech Events: (Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and All Interpretation Events (DI, HI, POI, and DUO)

LD and PF will be a topic intensive experience with students immersed in the 2025 Sept/October national topic resolution with strategy sessions, topic specific lectures, guest speakers, office hours and a minimum of 12 rounds of debate over the course of 7 days.

Speech and Congress Events will be geared toward students preparing for fall competitions in one competitive event. 

Commuter & Resident Options:

Residential (housing in the dorm, three meals a day, and event curriculum): $1800  with $200 off early bird pricing if you apply and pay in full by December 1, 2024

Commuter (event curriculum only): $1100 with $200 off early bird pricing if you apply and pay in full by December 1, 2024

Resident Housing will be in Herriot Hall in air conditioned double-occupancy dorms with shared bathrooms:

*No linens provided: students should bring their own pillow, sheets (XL twin), blanket and towel.

Extras: One-way Airport Shuttle Service ($50) Round Trip Airport Shuttle Service ($100). Airport to fly into: Des Moines International Airport. Uber/Taxi to campus estimate: $25-35. If you are driving there is daily paid parking on campus.
